These are only recommended lesson lengths; you can have longer or shorter at your own request

Beginners to intermediate (grade 5) – 30 minute lesson
Intermediate to advanced (grade 7) – 45 minute lesson
Advanced (grade 8) to professional – 1 hour (also recommended for adults at any level!)

Theory classes -30 minutes
Quavers classes- 45 minutes
Parent and toddler – 1 hour
Junior cert grinds – 1 hour
Leaving cert grinds – 1 hour 30 minutes
String Things (Orchestra) – 1 hour every week

We like to think of ourselves as progressive and forward thinking. Our staff have worked in all sorts of genres such as ; classical, traditional, popular, indie, jazz, hip-hop etc…As performers ourselves we are always looking for new opportunities and genres to explore. We actively encourage our students to compose and improvise to explore and build on their own musical styles!

Absolutely NO! Music is about enjoyment, and that is exactly what we want you to take home from your lessons with us. However, exams are a good way to push yourself to that next level, if that is what you want to do. The decision to take an exam, is entirely up to the student. Our teachers will always guide and advise you on this.

We follow ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), LCM (London College of Music), RGT (Registry of Guitar Teachers) and RIAM (Royal Irish Academy of Music)

We try and hold as many exam sessions as possible at our own school, but this obviously depends on how many of our students are entered into the exams. As we grow the school, we hope to become a dedicated exam center for all examination boards. Yes you can, but you obviously have some catching up to do. We offer an intensive leaving cert course to give you the highest possibility of acing your leaving cert exam.

We have a wide range of classes starting with our parent and toddler group for new born’s to 3 years old.  In this group we explore children’s rhymes and songs from around the world explore basic tunes and rhythms through percussion instruments and movement.
The next step we have is Quavers, which is our pre-instrumental class for 3 to 9 year olds, usually 45 minutes long each week, this class allows the child to explore different instruments and music styles, exploring music from its earliest drum beats to modern day sounds, and form new relationships and bonds with other children. This is a great way for your child to begin a life long love of music.

There are 2 things in our school which are absolutely and totally at the core of who we are. Firstly is our love of music, and how we want you/your child to have a lot of fun learning the greatest gift on earth, and second is your children s welfare. All our teachers are Garda vetted and encouraged to attend child protection courses. For full information, See our dedicated child protection section.

If your teacher is unable to make your lesson for any reason they will re-arrange that lesson to another convenient time with you. This may be by way of an extra day at the end of term, or however it is best to make that time up to you.

If a student cannot make their usual lesson time we require at least a days notice is given where possible. We cannot guarantee that this lesson will be made up but we will try our very best to make sure it is during the current term, where physically possible! We normally offer extra days at the end of term to make up such lessons.

Don’t worry! Sometimes people know exactly what instrument(s) they want to play, sometimes it takes a little time to work that out, and that is fine. A keyboard to start off with is more than adequate. If possible try to go for a full size keyboard with a touch sensitive action. We can recommend where to purchase these from, and sometimes we know other students who have second hand ones. When you progress above grade 4 level then you need to look at investing in a piano but here again we have contacts and can help and advise you on your next step.

These sizes are generally the same for acoustic, electric and bass guitars.

• 4-6 years old/height 3ft 3inches  to 3ft 9inches – 1/4 size Guitar
• 5-8 years old/height 3ft 10 inches to 4ft 5 inches – 1/2 size Guitar
• 8-11 years old/height 4ft 6 inches to 4ft 11inches –  3/4 size Guitar
• 11-Adult /height  5ft and over –  4/4 (full) size Guitar

Like the Viola and Cello, the simplest way to decide which size violin you require, is to measure from the middle of your left palm, to your neck. Make sure the arm and hand are fully stretched out and horizontal.

• 22 to 23 inches – 3/4 size violin
• 20 to 22 inches – 1/2 size violin
• 17.5 to 20 inches – 1/4 size violin
• 17 to 17.5 inches – 1/8 size violin
• 15 to 17 inches – 1/10 size violin
• less than 15 inches – 1/16 size violin

We hold an informal concert at the end of each term, with the emphasis being on fun, whilst also giving you or your child a gentle introduction to performing in front of other people. Our orchestra classes (String Things) was created to nurture and develop collaborative musicianship with our students, and to perform at the school, and in association with other musicians around the country. In June 2014 we teamed up with Tulsa Honors Orchestra, visiting Ireland from the USA, to perform a highly successful concert in Dublin. In the future we may look at travelling to another country to perform (and have fun as well), and also for the hosts, to come to us and perform here. More information on this, will be available as and when we develop this idea with our international collegues.
